Prepare your records for migration

A cleaner source of information makes a product evaluation and migration discussion more useful.

01

Inventory your sources

List the spreadsheets, document folders, calendars and existing tools your team uses. Identify the owner of each source.

02

Clean before transferring

Identify duplicate clients, inconsistent matter names and inactive records. Agree which source is authoritative before preparing an export.

03

Confirm the supported path

Ask the LegalCRM team which formats, fields, document types and volumes can be migrated. Do not assume an automated importer or integration exists.

04

Pilot and reconcile

Agree a small test set and an acceptance checklist. Compare counts and sample records before authorising a wider transition.

05

Define acceptance in advance

Check client and matter counts, sample contact fields, ownership, statuses, dates and document access. Separately reconcile opening financial balances with the responsible finance person. Keep a record of each discrepancy and its resolution.

06

Plan cutover and recovery

Identify who approves the move, when old records stop changing and how unfinished work will be captured. Retain an accessible source copy and agree how the firm would return to it if the pilot fails.
